70 Years of the State of Israel: “From the Shoah to New Life!”

March of the Nations in Jerusalem on a Historical Date. By Jobst Bittner

The March of the Nations will take place May 13-15, 2018. It will be completely unique to its type of event. There are several blessed conferences and events being held in Jerusalem. But what makes the March of the Nations unique?

God is Writing History with Israel

There are times during which God writes history. The founding of the state of Israel on May 14, 1948 belongs to one of the most important events of this age. A vast history of persecution of the Jewish people, which extends almost 2,000 years, came to an end. David Ben Gurion occasioned the Israeli Declaration of Independence at the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv. It went into effect on May 15. That was the birthing point of the new state of Israel. I am convinced that God wants to introduce a new chapter of blessing in Israel, May 13-15, 2018, after 70 years of a history that is full of miracles.

The Nations Turning Towards Israel Again

Even though Israel has been recognized as a state by many UNO members, it still suffered hostility during its 70 year history. Yet the Bible speaks of a time in which the nations will turn to Israel again, “´Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.´ The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem,” (Micah 2:4, NIV). In the verses that follow, the Prophet describes the return of the Messiah, who will gather the lame and the exiles and will make into them a strong nation. But who are the lame and the exiles? There is a well-known saying in Israel, “Mi Schoa le Tkuma – from the Shoah to New Life!” From the desperation of the Shoah, a new Israel rose up. Holocaust survivors were the “desperate and broken” of their time – and like a miracle, Israel came to new life through them! We want to honor them especially with the March of the Nations.

The Power of Reconciliation

The March of the Nations 2018 is conveying the message behind the March of Life movement to Israel. The March of Life began in 2007 through the repentance of descendants of Nazi perpetrators for the guilt of their fathers and forefathers. Since then, marches have taken place in 350 cities and 19 nations. The heart behind the March of Life movement remains today the humble request for forgiveness for indifference and silence towards anti-Semitism. Maybe one component of this special time is descendants of Nazi perpetrators, from the land of unmerited grace, calling the nations to Jerusalem for the March of the Nations, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel, to stand together with Israel in friendship. Be there when God writes history!
