Over a thousand Participants joining the March of Life in Ecuador

On 18 November 2018 the first March of Life took place in Ecuador (Guayaquil).

After intensive preparations, together with a large number of congregations, the March began near the Luis Vernaza Hospital and continued for about 1 km to the central Malecon Promenade in the heart of the Port City. More than 1000 Christians  and Jews came together to remember, to talk about reconciliation, to set an example against modern antisemitism and to stand up for Israel.

Hundreds of flags, along with many different dance groups and singing together, accompanied the March and the closing event at the Malecon. Representatives of various Christian communities were speakers and greetings from the German and Israeli ambassadors were delivered either read-out or a through a pre-recorded video. A Holocaust survivor, along with his daughter expressed his emotion and gratitude by saying, "I am surprised, overwhelmed, satisfied. What a privilege to feel this love and support and to be the center of this step of restoration. I am eternally grateful.’’ Many of the participants had tears in their eyes. A central element was also the reading of a Declaration in which Christians and leaders from the most diverse denominations committed themselves to Israel and to their fellow Jewish citizens.

The echo-effect in the press was impressive. The main news program on national television covered the March of Life and a national newspaper also reported extensively on it.
