March of Life Musical Tour through Israel

From Dec. 22 to Dec. 28, 2018 a group from March of Life in Germany will bring the Musical “Exodus 1947” to schools and public places in Israel.

The musical "Exodus 1947" tells the story of the largest refugee ship that led to the founding of the state of Israel in May 1948. The cast all being descendants of former Nazi-perpetrators, the musical conveys a powerful message of reconciliation and support for the State of Israel and Jewish life worldwide.

The musical "Exodus 1947" tells the story of the largest refugee ship that led to the founding of the state of Israel in May 1948. It takes the audience into the hope of a Jewish state, the readiness to fight for it and the way from the Shoah to new life.

World War II was ending. The liberation armies stormed Auschwitz and the other camps. In the world outside the camps, there were many who assumed that the survivors would rush out of the gates, breathe free air and live happily ever after. Nothing was further from the truth. Hundreds of thousands lived in the camps for ‘displaced persons’ in Germany and Austria. They had no place to go. No country wanted them. So they stayed once again: in camps. Waiting, longing for a place to call their home! Palestine - a land for the Jewish people became the only hope for a future! But the British didn’t allow them to immigrate into the British mandate of Palestine. Therefore, the Jewish Agency for Palestine bought dozens of ships, which should secretly bring the refugees into the country. One of them was the "Exodus 1947".

The half-hour musical is embedded in a 1 h program of March of Life. Many of the actors are descendants of Nazi perpetrators. They are going to tell their story and why they are part of the musical. Besides the show, the personal encounter between the descendants of Holocaust survivors and descendants of perpetrators is especially important to us. We would be happy if Holocaust survivors are among the audience.
